Creative Director/Lesson Specialist
Paula Nicholas works as an education consultant in the Denver, CO metro area for over fifteen years. She has a strong and varied education background consisting of a B.S. in Biology, M.S. in Range Science, and a Type A Secondary Science Teaching Certificate. Paula has developed many different kinds of K-college curriculum for both formal (3 years) and informal (12 years) education programs, and is also a professional illustrator. Her special interest is in developing creative cross-curricular education units. Currently, Paula works full-time as the Federal Aid Coordinator at the Colorado Division of Wildlife and teaches Biology part-time at the Community College of Aurora.
Julie Nicholas is the Music Director/Specialist of the “Sweet Betsy” project. An Assistant Professor at Dominican University of California, as well as Music educator in schools, Julie Nicholas holds a B.A in Music and M.A. Music Literature. Julie’s teaching experience accrues over 20+ years and includes experience with many types of schools and student populations. At Dominican University, she has designed several courses, including: Songs That Built America: Occupational Songs of the 19th Century, Early American Women Through Song, Bringing Music into the Classroom, Roots to Rock: Race, Gender and Politics though American Music and Art. As a professional singer/musician, Julie and her singing trio, the celebrated Nicholas, Glover and Wray enjoyed more than 30 years together. Her vocals, arrangement, and “Betsy’s voice” are featured on the “Sweet Betsy” music CD.
